Artist Statement

When shadows grow long, I get restless; and when darkness falls, I drive into the night to greet celestial life. I find myself a private spot where I can be bothered only by coyotes. At first, I feel fear like a city dweller, but I look at the stars and let it all go. I surrender and tune into night landscape - it is my canvas, and flashlights are my brushes. I orchestrate a symphony of light while my cameras silently record my fantasies.

...and when I am back to the city, I look at people and wonder how many of them will never venture into the night to witness how beautiful their moonlit planet is.

While light painting has been around for at least 50 years, I believe it has not yet been duly explored.

My ambition is to move beyond mere illumination of the subjects and to venture into the world of staging a fantasy. At the end of the journey, I see myself orchestrating every object within the camera's view including the whole landscape in the symphony of light.

I experimented with various light media and with some quite unusual gadgets, researched optics and lights and related disciplines before I even started pondering the ephemeral part of the craft, or even thinking about how to unleash my imagination.

I am now happy to move to the next stage with light painting and embark on projects with technical confidence that frees me to express my untamed conceptions.
